German-speaking Opera Studios

I’ve had a few people ask me recently  about opera studios  in Germany (Opernstudio or Junges Ensemble, basically what is in other parts called a Young Artist or Apprentice Programme), so I thought I might do a few posts about that over the next little while.

So, as far as I’m aware, these are (in alphabetical order) the studios attached to houses (I can’t comment on the renumeration) that exist in the German speaking part of the world (Germany, Austria and parts of Switzerland):

If I’ve missed an opera studio, please let me know!

Most opera studios in Germany are international, and accept applicants from all over the world. There are a couple which draw only from a particular music school, however (e.g. Karlsruhe).

Hi Andrew, great site, already proven extremely useful! Thank you.
I´m a pianist though, and most of these studios don´t have places for repetiteurs. Any chance of finding a similar list regarding vocal coaching/accompaniment?

Hi Andrew. Thanks for the wonderful website. I was wondering about something. On most opernhaus websites, it is impossible to find any information on how to apply to the studio. Do you know how and to whom I should send my dossier?

Thank you very much for your help!

if there is no specific information on the website regarding applications, the best thing would be to write to the Künstlerisches Betriebsbüro (KBB) with your CV and ask them for the appropriate application form or information. You should be able to find an email for that on a theater website – if in doubt, just use the generic contact form or email.

What do you think?
